The world of distorted games, shattered memories, and issues of life and death is coming back. Netflix has finally dropped the eagerly awaited trailer for Alice in Borderland Season 3, and fans are losing their minds. The new season drops September 25, 2025, and original stars Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya are returning to their roles as Arisu and Usagi, their lives forever altered by the collective trauma and love they’ve experienced.
But this time, they’re not just surviving the Borderland. They’re unraveling the last, and most enigmatic, card of them all: the Joker.
The Final Stage: The Joker Card
In the wake of Season 2’s shocking finale, Arisu and Usagi seemed to have cleared the last game and escaped the Borderland. People were left wondering if their brutal experience was a shared hallucination, some kind of alternate afterlife, or maybe something far worse. Married and living happily ever after in reality, Arisu and Usagi are haunted by horrific dreams about the games they managed to escape.
That peace is shattered when Usagi vanishes without a trace, dragged back into the Borderland by a mysterious scholar called Ryuji, portrayed by recent addition Kento Kaku, obsessed with the afterlife. When Arisu is confronted by Banda, who has been deformed into a creature within the Borderland, he is informed of the impossible truth. Usagi is once again a prisoner within the games.
With but one card left over, the Joker, Arisque, has to go back into the world of death-defying obstacles. But the Joker’s game is not just another challenge. It’s a reckoning. Its nature is undefined, and the teaser hints at a psychological, metaphysical twist beyond anything that the players have experienced so far.
Brutality Amplified: The Trailer Teases a Bloodier Borderland
Netflix’s new trailer whisks viewers back into chaos. The stakes are greater, the pictures darker, and the violence more defined. From blazing fire arrows to jaw-dropping deathtraps, Arisu’s descent back into hell looks more dangerous than ever.
Trailer highlights:
- Tetsu (Koji Ohkura) screaming in terror as corpses fall around him
- A cold, sinister Kazuya (Yugo Mikawa) leveling a pistol with hunter-like aim
- Rei, the enigmatic blue-haired wild card (Tina Tamashiro), flashing a smirk that screams “Don’t trust me”
- Usagi, unconscious and suspended in an unknown facility, possibly under Ryuji’s control
- And Ryuji himself. Is he a grieving prophet or a master manipulator?
This season promises more than just survival. It flirts with the border between life, death, and resurrection.
Who’s Returning? Who’s New?
Back for more agony and adrenaline are: Hayato Isomura, Ayaka Miyoshi, and Katsuya Maiguma, all reprising significant roles from previous seasons. New players Risa Sudou, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Kotaro Daigo, Hyunri, Sakura Kiryu, and Joey Iwanaga are the new faces seeking to shake the boat, with the aforementioned Kaku playing Ryuji.
The new, larger cast heralds new alliances, dynamite betrayals, and new factions fighting to cheat or dominate the game.
A Marriage Broken by Madness
Arisu and Usagi’s love story was the emotional heartbeat of previous seasons. Their journey from strangers to soulmates offered rare humanity in a world that rewarded cruelty. But Season 3 may turn that on its head. With Usagi being used as bait and Arisu’s mind fracturing under the pressure of returning to a world he thought he escaped, fans are wondering. Can love survive the Joker’s game? Or is this the end?
The teaser poster, where Arisu and Usagi stretch hopelessly towards each other across an abyss, seems to answer that question with terror. The image is eerie and alien. It is a symbol of their impossible predicament.

Global Obsession, Unfinished Business
Since its launch in 2020, Alice in Borderland has been Netflix’s most beloved Japanese original. Its combination of dystopian thriller, high-stakes games, and tear-jerking storylines reminded viewers of Squid Game, but die-hard fans insist Alice is darker, wiser, and more heart-wrenching.
With only a single card left, the question persists. What is the Joker? A trickster god? A final test? An entrance to death or redemption?
We will all find out when Alice in Borderland Season 3 will release on September 25, 2025, exclusively on Netflix.
