If you watched Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) IG Live, it’s very clear that many members of Congress were minutes away from being killed on Jan 6th—and Capitol Police was unprepared in every way.
During the Capitol Attack, AOC hid in the bathroom in her office and says she heard someone break in, shouting “where is she?”
“This was the moment where I thought everything was over,” she says, while she hid behind the door of her bathroom. “I thought I was going to die.”
AOC says that the man turned out to be a Capitol police officer. But he was looking at her with anger and hostility, and he was there without a partner. Something did not feel right. She wasn’t sure if she was projecting.
“It felt like a zombie movie,” AOC says of the experience.
Eventually AOC ended up sheltering in Rep. Katie Porter office. She says that she tore through Rep. Porter’s office looking for places to hide.
AOC is hammered home that accountability is necessary for safety. Currently there is no accountability, and therefore no safety.
“You want to be president so bad that you are going to allow your own colleagues’ lives to be in danger,” AOC says, calling out the “craven” ambitions of people like Cruz and Hawley.
