Apple TV Plus has officially renewed the hit comedy “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” for its second season, the streamer has announced today.
The series features a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and stars Elle Fanning as Margo, a recent college dropout, aspiring writer, and newly minted mother dealing with mounting debt. Michelle Pfeiffer and Nick Offerman star as her mother, a former Hooters waitress, and her father, a former professional wrestler.
Thaddea Graham, Marcia Gay Harden, Greg Kinnear, Michael Angarano, Rico Nasty, and Lindsey Normington complete the cast.
“Embarking on the adventure of bringing Margo to the screen has been one of the greatest joys of my life,” Fanning said. “I can promise everyone they’re in for a wild, messy, and beautiful ride.”
The creator, writer, and showrunner, David E. Kelley, a multiple Emmy Award winner, created the series based on Rufi Thorpe’s novel. It also boasts Nicole Kidman, an Academy Award-, Golden Globe-, and Emmy Award-winner, who executive-produces the series through her production company, Blossom Films, alongside her partner, Per Saari.
“‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ was an irresistible proposition to me from day one,” Kelley said. “We can’t wait to continue this story with our partners at Apple and A24.”
Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV Plus, noted the positive reception of the ensemble. “We’re excited to watch Margo and the entire family continue to defy the odds in season 2,” he said.
As reported, Eva Anderson, who executive-produced season one, will take on the position of co-showrunner in addition to Kelley for the upcoming second season. As previously announced, the series is produced by A24. Also, the show boasts executive producers such as Dakota Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward for Lewellen Pictures; Matthew Tinker, Pfeiffer, Thorpe, Anderson, and Boo Killebrew. Dearbhla Walsh, a BAFTA and Emmy Award winner who also directed the series’ pilot, acts as one of the executive producers. Kate Herron and Alice Seabright also direct episodes in season one.
Season one of “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” is scheduled to end with its finale premiering globally on Apple TV Plus on Wednesday, May 20th. Its penultimate episode, “Lariat Takedown,” is out now.
This renewal marks another collaboration between David E. Kelley and Apple TV, the first being the Emmy-nominated legal thriller “Presumed Innocent.”
