Apple TV+ has dropped the trailer for its highly-anticipated limited series, “The Big Cigar,” set to premiere globally on May 17. The series will kick off with its first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday until June 14.
Starring André Holland (“Moonlight,” “Selma”), the series features a star-studded cast including Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone, PJ Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Dalton, Olli Haaskivi, Jordane Christie, and Glynn Turman.
Based on the magazine article by Joshuah Bearman, who also serves as executive producer, “The Big Cigar” recounts the incredible true story of Hollywood meeting social revolution. The plot revolves around Black Panther founder Huey P. Newton’s escape from the FBI to Cuba with the help of famed producer Bert Schneider. The plan, which involves a fake movie production, takes unexpected twists and turns, going wrong in every possible way.
NAACP Image Award winner Janine Sherman Barrois (“Claws,” “Self-Made”) serves as the showrunner for “The Big Cigar.” Executive Producer Jim Hecht penned the series’ first episode (“Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty”).
The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, with Sherman Barrois and her Folding Chair Productions working under an overall deal. Alongside Bearman and Hecht, executive producers include Joshua Davis and Arthur Spector of Epic Productions.
Fans can mark their calendars for the premiere of “The Big Cigar” on May 17, exclusively on Apple TV+.
