Pop sensation Billie Eilish has shattered her previous album sales record with the release of her third studio album, “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT.” The album, released on May 17 via Darkroom/Interscope Records, has achieved staggering first-week numbers, selling 339,000 units. This amazing total consists of 191,000 album sales, 146,400 streaming equivalent albums (SEA), and 1,200 track equivalent albums. Furthermore, the album sold an astounding 90,000 vinyl copies, making it Eilish’s most successful launch week to date.
“HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” exceeded Eilish’s trailblazing 2019 debut album, “WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?,” which not only earned her multiple GRAMMY® Awards but also broke countless music industry records. The new album’s popularity is reflected in its 500 million global streams and #1 ranking on Apple Music. It has also topped the charts in 14 countries and counting.
“HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” is the first album by a female solo artist to have three tracks — “LUNCH,” “CHIHIRO,” and “BIRDS OF A FEATURE” — each receiving over 8 million listens daily in the Top 10 Spotify Global Chart within its first week.
“LUNCH” has dominated, becoming the number one most-added song in the United States, with airplay on over 250 radio stations and an audience of over 20 million across multiple formats.
It continues to be the most streamed song on Spotify’s Global Chart. The music video for “LUNCH,” which was directed by Eilish herself, also established a record for the biggest solo song launch on YouTube this year.
Since launching “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” last month, Eilish’s social media following has increased by 23 million, proving her enormous and growing popularity.
Billie Eilish’s meteoric rise began with her breakout single “Ocean Eyes” in 2015. She has since accumulated nine GRAMMY® Awards, including historic wins at the 62nd GRAMMY® Awards in 2020, where she became the youngest artist to win in all major categories.
Eilish is well known for creating and singing the James Bond theme tune “No Time To Die,” which won her the Academy Award for Best Original Tune in 2022. Her contribution to the music for the film “Barbie,” the song “What Was I Made For?,” sealed her legacy by winning an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and two GRAMMY® Awards in 2023.
Billie Eilish will kick off the North American leg of her “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR” this autumn, with shows in Europe and Australia, slated for 2025, promising to deliver her latest hits to fans all across the world.
