ABC Studios recently announced their signing of ‘Black Panther’ and ‘The Walking Dead’ star Danai Gurira to a two-year overall deal. Under the deal, Gurira will develop, write and produce exclusively for ABC Studios across all their platforms.
SOME OF DANAI GURIRA ACHIEVEMENTS:
Being the first African female writer to have a play on Broadway and to bring African women’s perspectives to mainstream theater. Her award-winning stage plays include In the Continuum, Eclipsed, The Convert, and Familiar.
Gurira appeared as General Okoye in Marvel’s 2018 film Black Panther, winning a People’s Choice Award, an NAACP Image Award, and sharing a SAG Award. She would go on to reprise the role in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame – which would go on to become the top-grossing film in cinematic history.
Holding a Master of Fine Arts from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Gurira is an ambassador for Bono’s One campaign, a co-founder of Almasi Arts Alliance, and founder of Love Our Girls. She was also named a Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women in December 2018 – promoting the cause of gender equality and women’s rights.
