Cardi B’s “I Like It,” featuring Bad Bunny & J Balvin, has climbed to No. 1 on the Hot 100 this week, reports Billboard. This is Cardi’s second single to top the chart after “Bodak Yellow” hit the top spot in October 2017. This is a historic accomplishment for Cardi, who is now the first female rapper with two Hot 100 No. 1s to her name.
While Cardi is now in a league of her own when it comes to hits, with “Bodak Yellow,” she joined only four other female rappers who had hit No. 1. Those are Lauryn Hill with “Doo Wop (That Thing),” Lil Kim with “Lady Marmalade” (alongside P!nk, Mya, and Christina Aguilera), Shawnna with Ludacris’ “Stand Up,” and Iggy Azalea with “Fancy,” (featuring Charli XCX), according to Billboard. It’s worth noting that Remy Ma also earned a No. 1 with Terror Squad’s “Lean Back,” which may not be mentioned because it is credited to the group rather than Remy Ma and Fat Joe.
Cardi is the first artist to earn two No. 1s from a debut album since Macklemore and Ryan Lewis released The Heist and earned No. 1 hits with “Thrift Shop” and “Can’t Hold Us” in 2013. She is the first soloist to achieve the feat since Bruno Mars released Doo-Wops & Hooligans, spawning No. 1 hits “Just the Way You Are” and “Grenade” in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
Two more rap singles round out the top three with XXXTentacion’s “SAD!” falling from No. 1 to No. 2 and Juice WRLD’s “Lucid Dreams” climbing from 4 to 3.
