17-year-old Cedric Lofton died while handcuffed at the Sedgwick County Juvenile Intake & Assessment Center in Wichita, Kansas. He got into an altercation while being in juvenile jail.

According to the New York Daily News, Lofton was taken into custody because his foster father called 911 to say his son was having a mental breakdown and needed an evaluation.

Cedric “CJ” Lofton’s family attorney tells KCWH eyewitness new reporter Caroline Elliot that footage of the incident shows the moments leading to his death appear to show “2 or 3 employees sitting on Cedric for 22-23 minutes before 911 was called.” Sedgwick County has not released the video.

The cause of Cedric Lofton death was complications of cardiopulmonary arrest sustained after physical struggle while restrained in a prone position.

The autopsy report officially rules Cedric’s death as a homicide.

The family of Cedric “CJ” Lofton released one of the last photos taken of the seventeen-year-old in the hospital before his death to show the public what these Sedgwick County Juvenile Intake & Assessment Center employees did to Cedric Lofton.
