A social media feud broke out following a post that highlighted two fans of a recent game between the San Antonio Spurs and called for a formal apology from Charles Barkley to the women of San Antonio.
The viral post featured images and selfies of two women, who appeared to be content creators, namely, Julie Swan, who was wearing a pink top, and Bluebeari3, who wore an orange top, sitting at the game. It was alleged that their appearance was contrary to Charles Barkley’s longstanding comedy sketch on the women of San Antonio.
Charles Barkley is an NBA Hall of Famer and is currently a TNT commentator. For decades, Barkley has been making jokes about San Antonio’s “big ol’ women,” tying them to the city’s cuisine and demographics, mentioning churros and Victoria’s Secret.
The post generated several hundred comments, but it failed to elicit the reaction its author desired.
First of all, many people pointed out that the women selected for the video were chosen specifically to prove a point. Speculation abounded that they were flown from other cities, such as Dallas, Austin, or even Houston, to San Antonio.
“Flew them in from Houston lol,” one person noted. “Never been to San Antonio, but all my boys say Charles never lied lol.”
Also, many users suggested that the purpose of showing up at the game and being photographed in such a manner was to appear in the video.
“These are gold diggers,” someone else commented. “Notice how she took her jacket off for the video. They know what they’re doing.”
Not all user comments were complimentary towards the two women.
“They’re 6’s at best,” someone quipped. “Have you not ever been around elite milk? I’ve seen better milk at a community college.”
At least one person mentioned that Charles Barkley’s detractors misinterpreted his remarks for quite some time. “One day I’m going to write an essay on the fact that Charles Barkley has also said they are beautiful women but statistically large,” the person wrote, “because YOU losers are the ones saying he said ugly!”
Some of the commentators took an entertainingly light-hearted perspective on why Barkley had been teasing fans.
“Chuck’s been using reverse psychology to keep his competition low, lol,” one person joked.
However, Charles Barkley hasn’t reacted to the post yet.
