Fired Amazon worker Christian Smalls files federal lawsuit against the retail giant for COVID working conditions.

In a proposed class action filed in Brooklyn federal court, Christian Smalls accused Amazon of failing to provide needed protective gear to its predominantly minority workforce, subjecting them to inferior working conditions than its mainly white managers.

Smalls lawyers tell Daniel Medina the civil suit is on behalf of thousands of workers whose lives have been “endangered by Amazon’s failure to protect them during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Christian Smalls was fired in March after he helped organize a walkout at a Staten Island warehouse in protest over a lack of PPE and hazard pay. A leaked memo, obtained by VICE News, revealed Amazon execs discussed plan to smear Smalls in an effort to undermine workers organizing.
