Rising Toronto singer Chxrry22 is paving a lane for herself as a new voice of R&B. After sharing two singles earlier this year, she has returned with her brand new debut EP The Other Side.
Across the seven tracks, Chxrry22 shares her vulnerability and honesty as she describes balancing her own needs and a turbulent relationship while prioritizing her career.
Relatable and cathartic, The Other Side tells a story of yearning for an old love on records like “Do It Again” and “Us” while also sharing bittersweet inner battles on “Alone” and “Wasteland” where she ultimately reaffirms her commitment to herself. Chxrry22 already shared the first single “The Falls” then followed up with “Call Me” – both garnered praise from Vibe, BET, Uproxx, and more and nearly 30 playlists across DSPs.
“The Other Side is about coming to terms with duality – we all have two sides,” says Chxrry22. “We can be both the villain and the victim in some story and this is me owning that.”
Chxrry (pronounced Cherry) was born and raised by Ethiopian immigrants in Scarborough, a suburb of Toronto. Growing up in a Christian household, Chxrry was known as the girl who could sing but never fully visualized the possibilities ahead of her until she put her music online in 2017.
After gaining some traction, she packed all of her things and moved to Atlanta where she began recording. Shortly after, she signed her first major label deal – and the rest was history. Chxrry22 is fully confident in her purpose as an artist and being a voice of empowerment for young women. Her debut is symbolic and one can see her cross the other side on the way to stardom.
