A top sprinter at Lincoln University has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the death of her boyfriend, who was a track athlete at the university, according to court records.

Denita Jackson, a resident of Berbice, Guyana, is charged in connection with the death of her boyfriend, 23-year-old Kevaughn Goldson, a resident of Kingston, Jamaica. According to reports, Goldson died from injuries sustained from being stabbed by Jackson in her apartment, where they were involved in a fight. He was airlifted to a hospital, where he later died.

Court records indicate that Goldson stayed at Jackson’s apartment on February 21. Jackson told police that she went to work the next morning, February 22, and came back home early, only to find her bed messy and Goldson nowhere to be found in her bedroom.

Records indicate that Jackson told police that she broke into her roommate’s bedroom with a hair clip and found Goldson and her roommate in bed together, fully dressed, and a broken bottle of cologne between them. The two had previously argued about a bottle of cologne, which Jackson accidentally broke.

Jackson told police that she jumped onto the bed, grabbed the bottle, grabbed Goldson by his shirt, and started fighting with him.

Records indicate that Goldson kicked her in the stomach, and then he pinned her down and started choking her.

Jackson told police that she picked up a knife from under the bed and stabbed Goldson in the back and then in the chest, and then called 911 herself.

Jackson is being held without bond. It is not clear if she has an attorney who can speak on her behalf.

Lincoln University has not made a public statement regarding this incident.
