Dave Chappelle Speaks on ‘The Closer’ Backlash

Dave Chappelle just dropped a clip on Instagram speaking on the controversy surrounding his Netflix special ‘The Closer’

Chappelle has been receiving backlash and many want him canceled after his last Netflix special. The trans employee resource group at Netflix did a company-wide walkout on October 20th, in protest of remarks made by joint CEO Ted Sarandos regarding Dave Chappelle’s recently released comedy special, The Closer. LGBTQ activists say Chappelle made a number of anti-trans comments in that special. Wednesday’s walkout comes after the streaming service reinstated three employees who were suspended for attending a director-level meeting they had not been invited to in order to discuss the special. Another employee was fired for leaking information about the cost of the special.

David Johns, executive director of the National Black Justice Coalition spoke on Dave Chappelle’s alleged transphobic and homophobic Netflix special, The Closer:

“It is deeply disappointing that Netflix allowed Dave Chappelle’s lazy and hostile transphobia and homophobia to air on its platform.”

In the Instagram clip, Chappelle spoke about how he created film that was going to be premiered at a film festival but the film festival changed their mind after the latest controversy. Chappelle also implied that Netflix is the only major film company that didn’t cancel him.
