A 22-year-old woman died and another was in stable condition after saving their friend from the Detroit River early Friday morning, according to Detroit Police. First responders were called around 3:45 a.m.

Police say the investigation currently reveals that the three friends were at Ford Park, along the riverfront, when the first friend is said to have slipped into the water. The two other people jumped into the river to help the first woman, who they successfully assisted out of the water. One of the rescuers, the 22-year-old woman, drowned.

The woman who tragically has passed away has been identified as Diamond Shelton, according to WXYZ-TV Channel 7. Denise Williams, the aunt of Diamond Shelton has created a GoFundMe page for anyone that wants to help pay for her funeral cost.

Our condolences go out to Diamond Shelton family and friends. The Detroit Police Department will still be investigating this case.
