In what might be one of the most unnecessary yet entertaining online beefs of the year, DJ Akademiks and YesJulz have gone head-to-head over, of all things, a misunderstanding about Playboi Carti’s latest album Music. What started as a simple fact-check quickly spiraled into personal attacks, incel accusations, and enough Twitter smoke to make your timeline choke.
Let’s break it all down, because this mess is too good to ignore.
The Spark: Akademiks Gets Called Out Over F1lthy
The drama started when DJ Akademiks, known for his loud and often controversial takes on hip-hop, claimed that Kendrick Lamar was the “creative director” of Carti’s new album. The internet immediately raised an eyebrow at this, and soon enough, Playboi Carti’s longtime producer, F1lthy, stepped in to shut it all the way down.
“Kendrick fam but he is NOT the creative director of this album. This Carti album.”
F1lthy made it clear that while Kendrick might be close to Carti, he was not the one running the show creatively. This was Carti’s project, period.
YesJulz saw this as the perfect moment to take a shot at Akademiks. She tweeted:
“Not knowing F1lthy is one of Carti’s main collaborators in 2025 as a journalist covering hip-hop is surely one way to admit you suck at your job 🤷🏻♀️”
And if there is one thing Akademiks cannot tolerate, it is being told he does not know hip-hop.
Akademiks Loses His Mind
Instead of taking a deep breath and doing a quick Google search, Akademiks went on one of his signature, expletive-filled rants. He did not just clap back at YesJulz. He went nuclear.
“That fcking whre YesJulz… you spent half your fcking life on your knees… how dare you talk to me, you done scked up half the industry…”
Instead of defending his credibility as a hip-hop commentator, he resorted to one of his favorite tactics: attacking a woman’s reputation in the most degrading way possible.

YesJulz Laughs It Off and Keeps It Moving
While Akademiks was on Twitch yelling at his screen, YesJulz was completely unbothered. Instead of engaging in an all-out war, she hit him with the internet’s favorite weapon: dismissive, passive-aggressive humor.
“Bro bout to pop a blood vessel 🤣🤣🤣”
Then she followed up with another jab, just to make sure the point landed.
“I don’t go back and forth with incels. I got somethin for that lil cootie patootie tho 🤗🤭”
She knew exactly what she was doing. Instead of playing into Akademiks’ usual chaos, she made him look desperate and pressed, all while keeping her tweets light and playful.
Akademiks vs. Women: A Never-Ending Story
This is not the first time Akademiks has gone off on a woman over something completely unnecessary. His track record of publicly degrading women who challenge him is well-documented. From artists to influencers to fellow journalists, he has a long history of turning minor disagreements into full-scale meltdowns.
The fact that YesJulz, of all people, got under his skin this much only makes it funnier. She did not even go that hard on him, yet he still completely unraveled.
Meanwhile, Playboi Carti Is Minding His Business
While Twitter was entertained by this messy feud, the real winner here was Playboi Carti. He was probably somewhere laughing while watching his streaming numbers climb.
Carti’s new album Music has officially dropped, and despite the drama, fans are loving it. The 30-track project includes features from Travis Scott, the Weeknd, Skepta, Future, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla $ign, and Young Thug.
While Akademiks and YesJulz were busy fighting over album credits, Carti was out here delivering music that people actually care about.
A Beautifully Dumb Feud
Was this entire beef pointless? Absolutely. Was it also hilarious? Without a doubt.
YesJulz handled this perfectly. She let Akademiks embarrass himself while throwing just enough shade to keep the internet entertained. Meanwhile, Akademiks once again proved that his biggest enemy is not any rapper, journalist, or influencer. It is his own ego.
Now can we all go stream Playboi Carti’s album in peace?
