Bethune-Cookman University agreed with Pro Football Hall of Famer Ed Reed to be its 16th head football coach, the school announced today.

The former Baltimore Ravens star spent 12 seasons in the NFL. Reed’s revered as one of the greatest safeties of all time. He gave quarterbacks such as Peyton Manning and Tom Brady a handful during his time.

Before taking the head coaching job at Bethune-Cookman University, he was previously the assistant defensive backs coach for the Buffalo Bills in 2016, and in 2020 returned to his alma mater in an advisory role as the Hurricanes’ chief of staff.

Ed Reed is heading to an HBCU that has won a pair of national championships and 14 conference titles in its program history. Sadly, the school is coming off back-to-back 2-9 seasons since joining the Southwestern Athletic Conference in 2021. The 44-year-old coach is looking to change the program around.
