Misunderstandings, breakups, and comebacks. The often vicious cycle of the comings and goings of some relationships is the theme of the long-awaited “Mil Veces,” Anitta’s new song.
The song and its music video will be released today, Thursday at 8:00 pm ET, and are part of the album “Funk Generation”, which has not yet been released.
“We’ve been through this a thousand times,” Anitta sings (in Spanish) about a troubled relationship, full of passion and difficult to end. “This song is a delight! I love the pop appeal of the lyrics, about a relationship that wasn’t meant to last, but that drags on and on, full of ups and downs. It’s crazy… It’s a dynamic that a lot of people may have already lived. I think “Mil Veces” can make people identify with it,” says Anitta.
“Mil Veces” showcases melodic funk, a Rio de Janeiro funk subgenre characterized by more romantic lyrical content and smoother, melodic musical production. Not by chance, this sound aesthetic is very characteristic of Anitta’s early works, in songs like “Meiga e Abusada” and “Eu Vou Ficar”.
To really achieve this very Brazilian identity, Anitta insisted on bringing producers from her native country to the album “Funk Generation”. This is the case of DJ Gabriel do Borel, who worked on both the composition and production of the new song. Born in the northern region of the city of Rio de Janeiro, the producer is an essential presence on the new album, being responsible for the arrangements of all the project’s songs revealed so far. Also collaborating on the production of “Mil Veces” are Brazilian Marcio Arantes and producer Julia Lewis, who has worked with Bad Bunny and Peso Pluma.
In the music video, which has sensual scenes, there is a surprise: the special appearance of Damiano David, vocalist of the Italian rock band Måneskin (winner of the 2023 VMAs), as Anitta’s romantic partner. “This clip is really sexy! Sexy, dynamic, and with a beautiful aesthetic… Working with Damiano, who is lovely and has become a friend, was incredible. I loved the final result and I hope everyone “-Anitta.
Together they star in intense moments that illustrate the disturbing but emotional atmosphere that is narrated in “Mil Veces.” The audiovisual is directed by Jackson Tisi, a filmmaker known for his collaborations with Pharrell Williams, J Balvin, and León Bridges.
One of Anitta’s most recent interactions with Måneskin was in September, during the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), where they both performed and won. The group also attended Anitta’s after-party that night.
This is Anitta’s first release since “A Favela Love Story,” a package composed of three songs and music videos that together tell a story of love and adventure against the backdrop of Rio funk. As part of the project, the video for “Funk Rave” was awarded at the same VMA ceremony in the Latin music category.
