In a historic moment for worldwide audiences, the first glimpse of Jaafar Jackson in performance as his legendary uncle, Michael Jackson, has been revealed. Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International, the studios behind the highly anticipated April 18, 2025 film “Michael,” released an iconic photograph that echoes the spirit of the 1992-1993 Dangerous Tour.

Renowned photographer Kevin Mazur, known for documenting Michael over the years, captured the moment, drawing intentional parallels to his past work with the King of Pop. Mazur, the first to photograph Jaafar Jackson in character, expressed his excitement, comparing the experience to shooting Michael’s rehearsals for the iconic “This Is It” concerts.

Producer Graham King emphasized Jaafar’s embodiment of Michael, stating, “With Jaafar, every look, every note, every dance move is Michael.” Director Antoine Fuqua echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Jaafar’s ability to channel Michael’s spirit in a magical way that goes beyond physical resemblance.

The film, slated for a worldwide release on April 18, 2025, promises a riveting and honest portrayal of Michael Jackson’s life. Director Fuqua highlighted the assembled team’s dedication to capturing the essence of the King of Pop, reuniting artists who knew and worked with Michael. The movie aims to provide an inside look into Michael’s triumphs, tragedies, personal struggles, and undeniable creative genius.

Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, steps into the starring role, with Fuqua directing and King producing. The film, written by three-time Oscar® nominee John Logan, is set to offer an epic, cinematic exploration of one of the most influential and trailblazing artists the world has ever known.

“Michael” is a collaborative effort between King, co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate John Branca and John McClain, Lionsgate (handling domestic distribution), and Universal Pictures International (managing global distribution, excluding Japan).

As the production unfolds, the world eagerly awaits to witness Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of Michael Jackson and experience the magic that promises to bring the iconic artist back to life on the big screen.
