Netflix announced today that the critically acclaimed series Squid Game will be returning for a second season, set to premiere on December 26th. The streaming giant also revealed plans for a third season, currently in development for a release next year.
The groundbreaking first season of Squid Game it achieved unprecedented global viewership, solidifying its status as a cultural phenomenon. The series garnered critical acclaim and numerous accolades, including Emmy Awards for Outstanding Directing for Hwang Dong-hyuk and Outstanding Lead Actor for Lee Jung-jae.
The highly anticipated second season will continue the story of protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae). While details remain limited, the original cast is confirmed to return, joined by new cast members Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Lee Jin-uk, and Choi Seung-hyun.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk expressed enthusiasm for the series’ continued evolution, stating, “I am excited to delve deeper into the world of Squid Game and share the next chapter with our audience.”
With the upcoming seasons, Netflix aims to build upon the series’ immense popularity and deliver another captivating chapter in the Squid Game saga.
