A Florida woman shared her story of being diagnosed with several types of cancers after learning that her husband of 30 years had cheated on her and that she had developed the human papillomavirus, better known as HPV.
According to Eileen McGill Fox, she first got tested and found to be negative for HIV, gonorrhea, and syphilis once she learned about her husband’s affair. About a year later, during a regular Pap test, she found out she had HPV, an infection that is typically not part of conventional STD testing.
The doctors explained that the presence of the virus made her extremely vulnerable to different types of cancers. In 2019, Eileen was diagnosed with vulvar cancer, followed by cervical cancer, while in 2023, she got anal cancer. As mentioned, all these forms of cancer have something in common—they are caused by HPV.
Over the past few years, Fox has undergone many medical procedures, such as having a hysterectomy and part of her labia removed. In addition, she still suffers from painful lasers and skin treatments since there are cancerous cells in her body.
“I never thought of having the vaccine since I was a mother,” the woman explained.
