Hamilton County Schools officials are investigating events leading up to the arrest of Tauris Sledge at East Ridge High School after a video of the incident surfaced on social media.
The footage shows East Ridge High School resource officer Tyler McRae pulling Sledge by his hair and pushing him to the ground.
The incident occurred during gym class when the P.E. teacher planned to play kickball and Sledge refused to play because he was not feeling well but when it was free time Sledge started playing basketball.
The teacher confronted him about it and Sledge “puffed out his chest” and called the coach racist and other names, according to the police report.
The report said Tyler McCrae showed up while Sledge was ‘loudly and aggressively’ arguing with the coach in front of students and other administrators. McRae put his hand on Sledge’s shoulder asking him to calm down so he wouldn’t have to arrest him for disorderly conduct. Sledge told the resource officer “you have 5 seconds to get your hands off me.” Sledge walked off to go take a seat on the bleachers.
Tauris Sledge was taken into custody and was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assault.
