Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin faces sentencing for the murder of George Floyd

Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill is set to sentence Derek Chauvin on Friday. Prosecutors have asked the judge to sentence the ex-Minneapolis, Minnesota, police officer to 30 years in prison for the 2020 murder of George Floyd, while Chauvin’s attorney has asked for a downward departure from sentencing guidelines or a sentence of probation with time served, according to reports.
