As Hartley High prepares for Term Two, the global success of Heartbreak High Season 1 has laid the groundwork for another thrilling journey into the chaotic world of teen drama. Fans can look forward to the return of beloved characters as well as the introduction of new faces when it premieres on Netflix worldwide on April 11th.
The new additions to the teaching staff include Angus Sampson, known for his roles in Furiosa, The Lincoln Lawyer, and Fargo, who will take on the role of Head of P.E. Timothy Voss, portrayed as an uber-masculine sports teacher, promises to change the dynamic at Hartley High. Meanwhile, Rachel House and Chika Ikogwe reprise their roles as dedicated staff members Woodsy and Jojo.
Sam Rechner plays Rowan Callaghan, an unassuming country boy thrust into the chaos of Hartley High and a complicated love triangle. Kartanya Maynard plays Zoe Clarke, an outspoken proponent of celibacy, and her gang of Puriteens add another layer of intrigue to the SLT class.
Rechner, who gained attention in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, and Maynard, a Trawlwoolway woman from Nipaluna/Hobart in Lutruwita/Tasmania, bring a variety of experiences and talents to the cast.
Returning students include 2023 Logie nominees Ayesha Madon and Chloé Hayden, as well as 2023 Logie winner and 2022 AACTA winner Thomas Weatherall. The cast, which includes James Majoos, Asher Yasbincek, Will McDonald, Gemma Chua-Tran, Bryn Chapman Parish, Sherry-Lee Watson, Brodie Townsend, and Josh Heuston, provides a familiar and dynamic mix of characters.
The Season 2 logline promises a tumultuous ride as new faces, a new sports teacher, and a mystery assailant derail any hopes for a peaceful term. The race for school captain heats up, resulting in dirty tactics that add to the chaos at Hartley High.
Season 2 of Heartbreak High, produced by Fremantle Australia and NewBe, was shot in Sydney on various Indigenous lands and continues to capture the essence of today’s teenagers, tackling themes ranging from first love and trauma to inclusivity and neurodiversity.
Following Season 1’s resounding success, the series has received numerous prestigious awards, including the 2023 International Emmy for Best Kids: Live-Action, as well as multiple Logie and AACTA awards. The show’s popularity on Netflix, where it ranks in the top ten globally, and its TikTok viewership of over 700 million demonstrates its global reach.
