HGTV has canceled its long-running home renovation series “Rehab Addict” after host Nicole Curtis used a racial slur during filming, the network confirmed.
In a statement shared with Deadline, the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned network said it was recently made aware of “an offensive racial comment” made during production of the show.
“HGTV was recently made aware of an offensive racial comment made during the filming of Rehab Addict. Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees, it does not align with the values of HGTV,” the network said. “Accordingly, we have removed the series from all HGTV platforms. We remain dedicated to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our content and our workplace.”
The cancellation comes just as new episodes of the series were scheduled to begin airing on Feb. 11. That schedule has now been scrapped.
Series Pulled From Streaming Platforms
In addition to canceling the show, HGTV has removed “Rehab Addict” from its website and streaming services, including HBO Max and Discovery+. As of Thursday, searches for the show on both platforms returned no results or error messages stating, “Oops! Looks like this link isn’t working.”
The page dedicated to the series on HGTV’s website has also been taken down.
A video from the set of “Rehab Addict” was obtained and published by Radar Online. In the clip, Curtis can be heard using a racial slur while working on a renovation project. She appears to immediately realize what she said and can be heard asking someone to “kill it,” seemingly referring to the footage.
Curtis Issues Apology
Curtis addressed the incident in a statement to TMZ.
“I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone,” she said.
“I’m grateful for the 15-year journey we’ve shared. It’s been a meaningful chapter, but my focus isn’t on my career. My focus, at this moment, is rightfully on my relationships, and my community, the people who truly know my character and where my heart is.”
In an Instagram Story post that included screenshots of her text exchange with TMZ, Curtis added, “There is more to this, but my family comes first, and I need to be mom right now more than anything else””

Curtis’ manager did not immediately respond to a request for additional comment.
Social Media Reaction
The leaked video quickly circulated on social media, drawing a wide range of reactions. Some users supported HGTV’s decision to cancel the show, while others debated the context of the remark and the network’s response.
A Long-Running Franchise Ends
“Rehab Addict” debuted in October 2010 on the DIY Network before moving to HGTV for its fourth season in January 2014. The series followed Curtis as she advocated for preserving and restoring older homes rather than demolishing them.
Over the course of eight seasons, 83 episodes aired. The DIY Network has since been rebranded as Magnolia Network.
With the series removed from broadcast and streaming platforms, the franchise’s future appears uncertain.
