The Fast & Furious spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham topped the weekend box office with an estimated global debut of $180 million.
Hobbs And Shaw is Universal’s fifth-highest grossing global launch ever, behind The Fate Of The Furious, Jurassic World, Furious 7 and Fifty Shades Of Grey.
“Hobbs & Shaw” carried an expensive $200 million production budget, meaning the film needs to become a global hit to turn a profit. The good news is the “Fast & Furious” franchise has a massive overseas following. It debuted in 63 international markets, placing No. 1 in 52 of those territories. The eighth films in the action series have grossed over $5 billion worldwide.
