The beauty giant, Huda Beauty, has terminated its contract with Love Island USA star Huda Mustafa from their glam squad after her Twitch stream went off the rails. On Halloween night, the beauty giant posted an announcement stating that they had terminated their contract as an ambassador for Mustafa after a video of her and her Love Island star, Louis Russell, laughing at the ‘n-word’ used by a viewer towards their former cast member, Olandria Carthen, went viral.
Fans reacted to the situation by calling the move ‘gross,’ ‘tone deaf,’ and ‘career ending’ as the video went viral on both X and TikTok. Huda Beauty immediately reached the ‘unfollow’ level without hesitation.
In the livestream session, an anonymous person called Olandria the N-word. In reaction to the racial statement, Mustafa and Russell laughed awkwardly and ended the call. Mustafa lost the global beauty contract because of Russell’s awkward laughter during the call.
Huda Beauty’s released a statement about cutting ties with Huda Mustafa.
‘At Huda Beauty, kindness and humanity are at the heart of everything we do,’ the statement said. ‘Unfortunately, one of our recent collaborators has displayed behavior that does not align with our values.’
The brand was very clear about the fact that racism doesn’t belong under the banner of their name.
‘While we valued the partnership we had with Huda, her recent behavior does not reflect our principles. We have decided to end our partnership and remove any related content from our platforms.’
Fans commend the company for reacting faster than most businesses do in what is termed the ‘age of apologies’. A comment from the social networking site reads, ‘This is the right way to handle a scandal.’
