Cigarette Girl, Netflix’s new Indonesian series, will premiere this Fall. The period drama, based on Ratih Kumala’s novel, tells an epic romance set against the tobacco industry in 1960s Indonesia.
Cigarette Girl transports viewers to the world of Dasiyah (Dian Sastrowardoyo), a woman ahead of her time who is obsessed with perfecting the formulas for clove cigarettes. Her meeting with Soeraja (Ario Bayu) sparks a love story marked by historical events that eventually shape their lives. Decades later, Lebas (Arya Saloka), Soeraja’s son, meets Arum (Putri Marino), with whom he traces the past and unearths buried secrets.
Tissa Biani, Ine Febriyanti, Winky Wiryawan, Sheila Dara, Ibnu Jamil, Rukman Rosadi, Nungki Kusumastuti, Dimas Aditya, Pritt Timothy, and Tutie Kirana also star in the series.
The series is produced by BASE Entertainment with showrunners Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson and directed by Kamila Andini and Ifa Isfansyah. Ratih Kumala, Tanya Yuson, Kanya K. Priyanti, and Ambaridzki Ramadhantyo also contributed as screenwriters. Cigarette Girl premieres on Netflix on November 2nd.
