Rising singer-songwriter Iyah May has found herself at the center of controversy after revealing that her latest track, “Karmageddon,” cost her a professional relationship with her manager. The artist took to Instagram to share the details of her split, claiming her manager terminated their contract after she refused to alter the song’s provocative lyrics.

“My manager ended our contract because I wouldn’t change these lyrics,” May wrote in a post last month. She elaborated in subsequent updates, explaining that while she was initially hesitant to share the ordeal, she ultimately felt compelled to do so as her song began resonating with listeners.

“I wish this story wasn’t true but it is,” May stated. “My manager didn’t agree with the lyrics in my song and refused to work with me and support me until I changed the lyrics. So I said, ‘bye.’”

“Karmageddon,” a song that critiques societal issues such as corporate greed, political corruption, and cancel culture, features lyrics that have sparked both praise and debate:

Manmade virus watch the millions die / Biggest profit of their lives
Here’s inflation that’s your prize / This is Karmageddon
Turn on the news and eat their lies / Kim or Kanye pick a side
Cancel culture what a vibe / This is Karmageddon
Corporations swear they never lie / Politicians bribed for life
More than war, it’s genocide / This is Karmageddon

Despite losing her manager, May has experienced an unexpected boost in visibility. She attributes this to the “Streisand Effect,” where attempts to suppress information inadvertently amplify it. Fans have rallied around the artist, sharing the song widely and praising its raw honesty.

“I’m not the only one feeling this way,” May wrote in another post, emphasizing the song’s growing impact.

The controversy has left many wondering whether “Karmageddon” will be able to reach mainstream audiences despite what May describes as “corporate censors.” The song has already sparked a dialogue on freedom of expression and the risks artists face when tackling polarizing topics.

For now, Iyah May seems undeterred. With her message resonating across social media platforms, the singer has found new strength in her independence and the support of her growing fan base.
