Police confirmed this weekend that a 12-year-old Florida girl stole her father’s car and took her 14-year-old friend to Louisiana to meet an online predator, according to The New York Post.
A young-looking girl named Jade Gregory got accounted for missing last week after she jumped in the driver’s seat of her parent’s Ford Taurus, went to meet her buddy, Khloe Larson, then, at that point, drove out of state.
According to reports, the two children planned to meet an unknown individual in Louisiana and had been communicating with him online.
Their sudden disappearance prompted a Missing Child Alert, and billboards and television screens in several southern states displayed their youthful images.
Gregory spent roughly five hours driving her father’s truck from Gainesville to Mobile, Alabama.
Specialists said that they were not joined by any adults during their excursion, and they had deliberately left their homes.
After seeing their images on a television in an Alabama convenience store, the girls were shocked and eventually decided to report the incident to the local police.
The shocking case now involves the FBI, who are looking into a person they believe the two girls planned to meet.
According to police, the children have been safely returned to their Florida families.
Authorities have increased their efforts to educate parents about the dangers posed by online predators and have urged them to closely monitor their children’s online activities.
The possibility of a child sex trafficker luring the runaways is under investigation by authorities.
In 2022, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; estimates that the country will receive 19,000 reports of child sex trafficking.
