President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate key administration positions for national security. Among the list nominees, is Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez for director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Department of Homeland Security.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas released the following statement on President Biden’s nomination of Sheriff Ed Gonzalez to serve as the Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE):
“Sheriff Ed Gonzalez is a strong choice for ICE Director. With a distinguished career in law enforcement and public service, Sheriff Gonzalez is well-suited to lead ICE as the agency advances our public safety and homeland security mission. I hope the Senate will swiftly confirm Sheriff Gonzalez to this critical position.”
Gonzalez has been a critic of former President Trump’s immigration policies.
