In a pivotal court hearing on Tuesday, Judge Carli Kierny set the bail for Tupac Shakur murder suspect Keefe D at $750,000, despite his attorneys pushing for a maximum of $100,000. KTNV’s Bryan Horwath reported that Keefe D’s legal team is optimistic that his family could gather the necessary funds for his release from jail.
If Keefe D successfully posts bail, he will be subject to house arrest until his trial. However, Judge Kierny imposed an additional requirement—a source hearing. This mandates that Keefe D must disclose the origin of the funds used for his bond.
Arrested in September 2023, Keefe D, also known as Duane Davis, faces a charge of murder with the use of a deadly weapon, intending to promote, further, or assist a criminal gang. Prosecutors allege his involvement as the orchestrator of Tupac’s 1996 murder.
While Keefe D is not believed to be the triggerman, he confessed to his role in Tupac’s murder through various interviews and a tell-all memoir. His defense contends that these admissions were made for “entertainment purposes.”
Keefe D stands as the lone surviving suspect in Tupac’s murder case, with the suspected shooter, Orlando Anderson, passing away two years after Tupac’s death. Two other suspects, Terry Brown and Deandrae Smith, also met their demise in subsequent years.
Having pleaded not guilty to murder last year, Keefe D has been incarcerated at the Clark County Detention Center since his arrest. His trial is scheduled to commence on June 3. Originally slated for January 2, the bail hearing was postponed by Judge Kierny to allow Keefe D’s legal team time to respond to a filing by the prosecution.
