A Collin County jury has convicted Karmelo Anthony of murder for the stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a Frisco ISD track meet last April. Anthony, 19, now faces the possibility of life in prison.

Prosecutors say that Anthony, who does not go to the same school as Metcalf, knew him from before but had never met him prior to April 2025. That’s when the confrontation started near a team tent area at the track meet.

The prosecutors say that Anthony stabbed Metcalf once in the chest. Metcalf was taken to a hospital, where he later died of the stab wound.

Self-defense was the main issue for the jury as it weighed Anthony’s case and ultimately found him guilty of the murder charge.
