Kat Dennings, now 38, recently opened up about the harsh criticisms she faced as a child actor in Hollywood.

In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Dennings revealed that at the age of 12, casting directors labeled her as “fat” and “not pretty enough.”

Reflecting on her early experiences, Dennings described the industry environment as “very harsh” and lacking in inclusivity. She recounted instances where casting directors were “very cruel,” even when addressing a child.

Despite the negative feedback, Dennings maintained a resilient attitude, crediting her parents for their support. She recalled thinking, “I’ll show them,” and her parents reinforcing that the critics were “idiots” whose opinions shouldn’t be heeded.

Dennings also noted the positive changes in the industry over the years, highlighting the current emphasis on body positivity, inclusivity, and representation—elements that were previously absent. She described the past environment as “really gross” compared to today’s “much softer, kinder” climate.

Currently, Kat Dennings stars alongside Tim Allen in the new ABC sitcom “Shifting Gears,” portraying Riley, the estranged daughter who moves back in with her widowed father.

She expressed enthusiasm about working with Allen, a figure prominent in her childhood due to his roles as Santa Claus and Buzz Lightyear, describing the experience as surreal yet rewarding.
