Netflix has released the first trailer for The Six Triple Eight, a riveting historical drama depicting the remarkable journey of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to have served overseas during World War II. Written by and directed by Tyler Perry, this film assures one of highlighting the extraordinary involvement of such unsung heroines.
The Six Triple Eight is a story of one such battalion that had an enormous task of sorting and delivering the gigantic backlog of mail to American soldiers fighting in Europe. Amidst war, under difficult conditions of labor, racism, and sexism, these women were unmoving in their determination to serve their country. Their work not only boosted the morale of the front-line troops, but it also crossed barriers and proved that determination and unity can overcome an obstacles.
Leading the charge is Kerry Washington as Major Charity Adams, commanding officer of the 6888th. Washington brings to life Major Adams’ strength and leadership, which motivated her battalion to go above and beyond everything that was thrown their way. The ensemble cast includes Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, and Moriah Brown, with powerhouse performances by Oprah Winfrey, Susan Sarandon, Dean Norris, and Sam Waterston.
The film also celebrates artistry with an original song, The Journey, written by Diane Warren and performed by H.E.R., and choreography by the legendary Debbie Allen.
From Tyler Perry, Nicole Avant, Angi Bones, Tony L. Strickland, Keri Selig, and Carlota Espinosa, the film is based on the article by Kevin M. Hymel that chronicled the actions and successes of the battalion. The story poignantly reminds one of the sacrifices and triumphs of these women, who delivered more than just mail-they delivered hope.
The Six Triple Eight gets a limited theatrical release from December 6, before its global Netflix bow on December 20. Powerful storytelling and an all-star lineup make this the film that will leave audiences worldwide inspired.
