NBA superstar LeBron James said on Sunday that he would love to visit Israel one day, praising the country and thanking his fans there for the support.
The NBA superstar was asked on Sunday about Israeli basketball player Deni Avdija, who made history as the first Israeli basketball player to play in an NBA All-Star Game.
The 41-year-old Lakers superstar said of Avdija: “I’ve been quoted on Deni already and asked what I think about his season. I said I believe he’s an All-Star. He plays exceptional basketball.”
James then talked about the Israeli fans of the NBA superstar.
“I’ve never been there, but if I have fans over there, then I hope you’ve been following my career. I hope I inspire people over there to not only be great in sports but to be better in general, in life. Hopefully, someday I can make it over there. I’ve heard nothing but great things.”
There are many opinions on social media about the NBA superstar’s comments.
One social media user said, “The athletes who once had the courage to speak up for the injustices of other people don’t exist anymore. The BLM stuff in 2020 was just a publicity stunt for people to watch the bubble games. These guys get paid and get told to shut up and dribble. And they do it proudly. Sickening.”
Others defended James’ statement.
“Absolutely nothing wrong with this answer,” one user posted. “What an amazing answer for a clearly set up question, wow.”
