“Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” has fired cast member Erica Mena after she used a racial slur against co-star Spice on Tuesday’s episode.
Mena flipped the table the women were seated at and yelled, “You monkey, you f*cking blue monkey!” after Spice said Mena’s son “hates” his own mother.
The insult drew immediate reactions from viewers, many of whom demanded that she be fired from the program. Mena and her ex-girlfriend Safaree Samuels have two Black children together. Mena is of Puerto Rican and Dominican (Latina and Afro-Latin) ancestry. Mena’s baby daddy and Spice are both Jamaican.
The show issued a statement Saturday morning confirming Mena’s departure from the reality tv series. “The ‘Love & Hip Hop’ franchise has never shied away from hard conversations in our community,” the statement read. “Working hand-in-hand with our partners, viewers will see the impact of Erica Mena’s remarks play out in the final three episodes of the season.” The statement concluded, “Effective immediately, she will not appear in the next season of ‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta’.”
