Vasana Montgomery issued an apology after being booted from the Love Island USA season 8 before it even premiered, after videos emerged of her using a racial slur.
She acknowledged the blunder in a statement after footage from her teenage years surfaced online.
“I want to address a couple videos from my teen years that have recently resurfaced,” Vasana said in the statement. “In those videos, I used a racial slur. There is no excuse for it, and I am deeply sorry.”
Montgomery acknowledged the harm her past words have caused.
“I am embarrassed and disappointed by my words,” Vasana admitted. “I take full responsibility for what I said and understand why it has hurt and upset people.”
The reality star explained how she’s matured and become more informed since those video clips surfaced.
“Since then, I have grown a lot as a person and taken the time to educate myself, listen, learn, and better understand the impact that language can have,” Vasana said.
Montgomery stressed the importance of taking responsibility while still striving to improve.
“I believe people accountable for their actions, but I also believe in growth, learning, and becoming better,” she said.
