Lovie Simone joins the cast of Power Book III: Raising Kanan. The show will also include Omar Epps, Patina Miller, Mekai Curtis and Hailey Kilgore, according to Variety.
Simone will be playing the role of Davina Harrison. Tough, sensitive, damaged and resilient, Davina is Kanan’s ideal girl, and he’s been crushing on her since second grade. Davina has a tough home life, and goes out with Buck Twenty, one of Unique’s crew. Her hard exterior softens quickly after she’s kicked out of school for getting into a fight and Kanan shows up for her in an unexpected way.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan, is set to be a prequel series set in the 1990’s that will chronicle the early years of Kanan Stark, whose world revolves around his mother Raq, who raised him by herself. She is his everything. At the same time, he is beginning to get a sense of not only the world around him but his place in said world. Kanan wants to be just like his mother…and that’s the problem. He’s young and wide-eyed and doesn’t know how the hustle works. And even more important, his mother is not nearly as keen as he is for him to follow in her footsteps. Theirs is a complicated relationship that only gets more problematic as time goes on.
Lovie Simone is known for her role as Zora in Greenleaf, which is one of OWN highest rated shows. She was also in HBO Share and has a new movie coming out on Amazon titled Selah and Spades that also stars Emmy winner Jharrel Jerome and ghostbuster actress Celeste O’Connor.
