The new Duchess was all smiles for her first Trooping the Colour ceremony in an off the shoulder, sleeveless dress that some critics on Twitter slammed for being too “inappropriate” for the Queen’s annual birthday parade.

The new Duchess of Sussex joined her husband, Prince Harry, and the entire royal family for the London festivities on June 9. The annual ceremony is a popular one in England that celebrates a 250-year-old British tradition where military troops show off their flags (or colours) while marching throughout the Buckingham Palace square.

The 36-year-old former “Suits” actress wore a pale pink, bespoke Carolina Herrera dress with a matching Philip Treacy hat. Despite how happy the royal family looked, some on social media felt that Markle’s look was “inappropriate” for the royal occasion.

It remains unclear if Markle’s off the shoulder look actually broke royal protocol, but she is set to have her first public outing with her 92-year-old grandmother-in-law next week in Cheshire, England.
