Melania Trump Calls on ABC to Remove Jimmy Kimmel Following ‘Widow’ Joke

Melania Trump, First Lady of the United States, condemned Jimmy Kimmel, a late-night talk show host, for using her family members for comedic purposes. Trump called it hateful and violent and asked ABC, the broadcasting company, to stop the program.

In her statement released through the official account @flotus, Trump described Jimmy Kimmel’s recent show as crossing lines by attacking her family.

“Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country. His monologue about my family isn’t comedy his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America,” she wrote. “People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate.”

Trump described Kimmel as a coward who uses ABC’s backing.

“A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him,” she wrote. “Enough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand. How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.”

The statement referred to a recent skit on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in which he organized a mock version of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. During the show, Kimmel said, “Our First Lady is here. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow!”

The reason people took note of the comments was that they were aired only days before a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

ABC Television has yet to comment on the first lady’s plea for action.
