Netflix has revealed the first look and premiere date for its highly anticipated new series, The Åre Murders. The crime drama is set against the breathtaking backdrop of Åre, a picturesque town in Sweden known for its stunning landscapes and serene atmosphere, which becomes the chilling setting for this gripping story.
The series is an adaptation of Swedish author Viveca Sten’s novels Hidden in Snow and Hidden in the Shadows, both part of her acclaimed The Åre Murders series. Sten’s books have captivated audiences worldwide, with more than 10 million copies sold in over 40 countries.
Sten, who serves as both the author and an executive producer for the series, expressed her excitement:
“The Åre Murders means a lot to me, and I’m thrilled that it’s now coming to life on a leading streaming service like Netflix! As the creator of the books, it’s incredibly rewarding to see my characters brought to life by such talented actors. My hope is that the TV series will resonate with audiences as much as the books have, both in Sweden and internationally.”
The adaptation promises to retain the intensity, intrigue, and depth that have made Sten’s novels a global success. The series will delve into dark secrets and complex characters, all set against the stark beauty of Åre’s snowy landscapes.
The Åre Murders will premiere globally on Netflix on February 6, 2025.
