The love story Lost in Starlight, starring the voices of K-drama powerhouses Kim Tae-ri and Hong Kyung, will be Netflix’s first Korean-language animated film.

The two have already proven their uncanny chemistry, most recently in the buzz-worthy K-horror series Revenant. In Lost in Starlight, they play astronaut Nan-young and musician Jay, who embark on the longest-ever long-distance relationship — one that connects Earth and Mars.

Kim makes her first foray into voice-acting as scientist Nan-young, whose astronaut mom failed to return to Earth when things went wrong during her Mars probe after proving her acting caliber in diverse genres such as The Spacesweepers, Twenty-Five Twenty-One, Alienoid, and more. Nan-young, too, has always wanted to go to Mars in the hopes of finding a trace of her mother.

Her wish is granted when she is chosen as one of the astronauts for a Mars probe project. But before she takes off, she meets Jay, a musician who also repairs vintage sound instruments. (It all started with an old turntable Nan-young inherited from her mother.) Jay is played by Hong, a rising star known for films such as Innocence, D.P., and Weak Hero Class 1.

Expectations are high because both actors took part in the pre-recording and live-action processes, allowing them to express their characters’ emotions in richer and deeper ways.

Thus, their interpretations of Nan-young and Jay had a significant impact on the animation process, resulting in a heartfelt and nuanced love story.

Han Ji-won debuted on the Korean animation scene with her short film Kopi Luwak and has since expanded her distinctively delicate style with works such as Clearer than You Think and Recipe to My Daughter.

She was recently invited to show her short film The Sea on the Day When the Magic Returns at the Sundance Film Festival. Han will use her talents in Lost in Starlight to tell a story of star-crossed love set against the breathtaking expanse of space.

Lost in Starlight is produced by Climax Studio, which has showcased K-content globally with Netflix series such as Hellbound, D.P., and JUNG_E.

The heart-fluttering romance between two young lovers whose yearning for each other must bridge Earth and outer space is set to captivate audiences in this animated film.

Will this long-distance relationship last? Find out when the movie will be available exclusively on Netflix.
