Olivia Rodrigo’s third studio album ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ broke the record for the biggest female album debut of 2026 on the music streaming platform. It was announced following its release.
The album accrued 82.6 million streams in its first 24 hours, beating Taylor Swift’s ‘folklore’ (81 million) and Beyonc’s ‘COWBOY CARTER’ (76 million) to land it at number seven in Spotify history for the biggest opening day album by a female artist. It is ranked below Taylor Swift’s ‘THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT’, which garnered 314 million streams on the first day.
Every track off the 13-song album entered the worldwide Spotify top 20, with ‘stupid song’ leading the pack at number one with 10.1 million streams. ‘the cure’ and ‘drop dead’ took numbers two and three, respectively, with 7.29 million and 7.1 million streams.
The release also generated Rodrigo’s largest single-day stream total to date, with 97 million streams accumulated across her entire back catalog on June 12.
Rodrigo also became the youngest female artist to reach number one on the Spotify Top Artists chart.
The album has beaten Rodrigo’s own previous biggest opening for 2023, ‘GUTS’, which received 60.9 million streams on its opening day and sits at 17th place in the ranking.
