Peacock has officially released the first look at Season 2 of its critically acclaimed original series Poker Face, created by Rian Johnson and starring Emmy® nominee Natasha Lyonne. The new season, set to premiere in Spring 2025, promises a fresh batch of thrilling, standalone murder mysteries featuring an impressive lineup of guest stars, unexpected settings, and the return of Lyonne’s fan-favorite character, Charlie Cale.

Charlie Cale’s Road Trip Continues

In Season 1, audiences are introduced to Charlie Cale, a woman on the run with extraordinary ability—she can instinctively tell when someone is lying. As she traveled across America in her iconic Plymouth Barracuda, Charlie found herself entangled in a series of bizarre murder cases that she couldn’t resist solving.

Season 2 picks up with Charlie still on the run, encountering new mysteries, new dangers, and a wildly diverse cast of characters along the way. In a statement from Johnson and Lyonne, the duo teased the exciting range of locations and cases awaiting fans this season:

“Charlie Cale is back on the run, and in Season 2 we’ve taken her journey to the next level—one murder mystery at a time. From minor league baseball to big-box retail, from funeral homes to alligator farms, and even a grade school talent show, Charlie navigates her crime-solving existential road trip with deadpan wit, human empathy, and her signature uncanny lie-detecting ability.”

The season continues the show’s unique case-of-the-week format, where each episode presents an independent mystery, while also maintaining the overarching storyline of Charlie’s flight from powerful enemies.

A Star-Studded Guest Cast

One of the most exciting elements of Poker Face is its impressive lineup of guest stars, and Season 2 is no exception. This season features appearances from a variety of Hollywood heavyweights and fan-favorite performers, including:

  • Cynthia Erivo (Wicked, Harriet)
  • John Mulaney (John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA)
  • Katie Holmes (Ray Donovan, Dawson’s Creek)
  • Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians, The Farewell)
  • Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad)
  • Alia Shawkat (Search Party, Arrested Development)
  • Kumail Nanjiani (Welcome to Chippendales, Only Murders in the Building)
  • Margo Martindale (The Americans, Cocaine Bear)
  • Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets, The Last of Us)
  • Patti Harrison (I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson)
  • Justin Theroux (The Leftovers, White House Plumbers)

And that’s just the beginning—Season 2 is packed with even more surprise guest stars, adding to the show’s tradition of bringing unexpected talent into its world of crime-solving and deception.

One particularly intriguing episode will feature Cynthia Erivo playing triplets, an ambitious role already generating buzz.

70s Cinema Meets Classic TV Mystery

Poker Face has always drawn inspiration from classic television procedurals like Columbo, The Rockford Files, and Quantum Leap. However, for Season 2, Johnson and Lyonne have pushed the show’s visual storytelling even further. The new season will take heavy inspiration from American 1970s cinema, particularly the works of filmmakers like:

  • Robert Altman (Nashville, The Long Goodbye)
  • Bob Rafelson (Five Easy Pieces)
  • Peter Bogdanovich (Paper Moon, The Last Picture Show)

Each episode will feel like a mini-movie, with a distinct visual style, unique tone, and a setting that immerses viewers into Charlie’s latest predicament.

*“The backbone of this show is TV—the kind of TV we grew up watching, episodic case-of-the-week gems like *Columbo. Each episode is a self-contained adventure with its own world, featuring an eccentric lot of characters played by a truly gonzo parade of guest stars.” – Rian Johnson & Natasha Lyonne

Expect moody cinematography, quirky humor, and a heightened sense of style that sets Poker Face apart from other mystery series.

A Critical Hit Returns

Season 1 of Poker Face was a breakout success, earning four Primetime Emmy nominations, including:

  • Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Natasha Lyonne)
  • Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series (Judith Light – WINNER)
  • Two additional nominations recognize its sharp writing and innovative storytelling.

It also became one of Peacock’s most critically acclaimed shows, with reviewers praising Lyonne’s magnetic performance, the show’s clever writing, and its nostalgic yet fresh approach to the detective genre.

With 12 new episodes on the way, Season 2 is poised to build on that success and deliver another unforgettable ride.
