Prime Video made a significant announcement, revealing a series order for the highly anticipated drama “Cruel Intentions.” Drawing inspiration from the iconic ’90s film of the same name, this upcoming series is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, and Original Film.

The star-studded cast features Sarah Catherine Hook, Zac Burgess, Savannah Lee Smith, Sara Silva, Khobe Clarke, John Harlan Kim, Brooke Lena Johnson, and Sean Patrick Thomas, with Claire Forlani, Nikki Crawford, Isabella Tagliati, Zeke Goodman, and Jon Tenney in recurring roles. The series, set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video, will be available in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

In this fresh adaptation, “Cruel Intentions” unfolds at an elite Washington, D.C., college, where two cunning step-siblings stop at nothing to maintain their dominance in the cutthroat social hierarchy. A brutal hazing incident puts the entire Panhellenic system at risk, prompting them to take drastic measures to safeguard their power and reputation. Their schemes lead them to seduce the daughter of the vice president of the United States.

Lauren Anderson, Head of AVOD Originals, Unscripted, and Targeted Programming at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed excitement about bringing the next chapter of “Cruel Intentions” to Prime customers. She commended the commitment, dedication, and talent of the entire team, including the exceptional cast, clever writers led by Phoebe and Sara, and partners at Sony and Original Film.

Executive producers Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher conveyed their enthusiasm for continuing the legacy of “Cruel Intentions,” a film beloved by many. They promised to infuse the new iteration with the same fun, irreverence, and boundary-pushing elements as the original. The support from partners at Original Film, Sony, and Amazon MGM Studios was acknowledged with gratitude.

The significance of “Cruel Intentions” in defining an era and remaining a cultural centerpiece was highlighted by Lauren Stein, Head of Creative at Sony Pictures Television. The new adaptation, she stated, is a passion project that has been in the works since its inception at Sony over 20 years ago.

Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher, known for their work on projects like “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and “Preacher,” lead as the series writers and executive producers. Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty from Original Film, along with Roger Kumble, who wrote and directed the original movie, are also executive producers.

The announcement of “Cruel Intentions” as a series marks a significant moment for fans who have long awaited a continuation of the captivating narrative. As the legacy of the ’90s classic is reimagined, the collaboration between Sony, Amazon MGM Studios, and Original Film aims to deliver a fresh and compelling take on the timeless story of deception, wit, and reckoning.
