Protesters gather at Toronto’s first Chick-fil-A to highlight company’s anti-LGBTQ record

The American fast-food chain opened its first restaurant in Toronto on Friday, despite a rally encouraging diners to boycott. Chick-fil-A is owned by Dan Cathy, an outspoken opponent of same-sex marriage and a supporter of anti-LGBTQ groups.

The US company, which has more than 2,300 restaurants across the States, first came under fire in 2012 after it was revealed that the company’s charitable organization, WinShape Foundation, had donated millions of dollars to groups and charities that oppose same-sex marriage and fund gay conversion therapy.
