Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., demanded President Donald Trump’s impeachment Monday after Trump posted a stark warning on Truth Social suggesting “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran fails to reach a deal before his 8 p.m. deadline.
“Sickeningly evil. Donald Trump must be impeached. When will it be enough for my Republican colleagues to grow spines and remove him from office?” Omar wrote on X.
The congresswoman’s remarks came in direct response to Trump’s Truth Social post, in which the president framed the evening as “one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World.”
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” Trump wrote. “I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.”
Trump’s post also expressed optimism about the possibility of regime change in Iran, writing that “different, smarter, and less radicalized minds” could produce something “revolutionarily wonderful.”
The President characterized the standoff as the culmination of “47 years of extortion, corruption, and death” and closed by writing, “God Bless the Great People of Iran.”
