A new round of conflict between Rep. Ilhan Omar and President Donald Trump escalated Tuesday after Omar publicly confronted the President’s comments in a White House video that accused Somali immigrants of perpetrating widespread fraud and also revived personal allegations against her.
In the video, President Trump accused immigrants from Somalia, including Omar, of perpetrating $19 billion in fraud. Trump also falsely accused Omar of marrying her brother for immigration purposes. The comments came as the President signed an executive order to combat immigration fraud. The move is part of the President’s immigration message, which has gained more attention this year as the United States enters 2026.
"Somali is a third-world, maybe a fourth-world nation… They come here and they steal $19 billion — it's crazy," says @POTUS on the anti-fraud task force.

"@IlhanMN, I hope this is part of it. She married her brother, supposedly… She's one of the ringleaders." https://t.co/G8xIyQk9VV pic.twitter.com/v4C1YnMHOQ
Omar hit back at the President’s comments on Twitter and also attacked the President personally.
“The most disturbing part of his unhinged comments is how comfortable he is in telling the world how stupid he and his followers are. But I guess it’s expected from a man who regularly and publicly fantasized about sleeping with his own daughter and is clearly implicated in the worst pedophile coverup case.”

The response by Omar came after President Trump falsely accused her of marrying her brother for immigration purposes. President Trump also falsely accused Omar of perpetrating $19 billion in immigration fraud.
Independent fact-checking organizations have already debunked the President’s accusations.
The President’s accusations of Omar marrying her brother for immigration purposes are baseless. Both Snopes and Reuters have already investigated the claim and could not find enough evidence to back it. The claim has been circulating since 2019.
The President’s claim of $19 billion immigration fraud by Omar also has no basis. The claim is an exaggeration of the $250 million immigration fraud case in the United States. The case is a pandemic-era immigration scam that took place in Minnesota. There is no proof that the case involves immigrants from Somalia.
