Congresswoman from the Democratic Party on Monday announced she would introduce articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Strikes of Arizona cited violations of her constitutional oath of office and unlawful strikes on Iranian civilian infrastructure as the main reason behind her impeachment motion. The move came amid growing hostilities between the U.S. and Iran.

“What we have seen out of the Trump administration over this weekend has been absolutely horrifying and gut-wrenching,” said Rep. Ansari. “The threats against Iranian civilian infrastructure in the entire country of Iran are unreal and apocalyptic.”

Ansari quoted President Donald Trump saying, “the entire country could be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night.”

According to her, Iran has more than 90 million citizens, so making such statements against a whole nation of people is a heinous crime that not only puts Americans’ and Iranians’ lives at risk but also strengthens the regime in the Islamic Republic. It allows the regime to present a boogeyman that they can blame for harming their citizens.

Ansari pointed out that the U.S. military operation has caused countless civilian casualties, deaths among American service members, and displaced more than a million people from their homes. Thus, she sees Hegseth as the main orchestrator of the so-called illegal war: “As a chief enabler of this illegal war, Pete Hegseth is responsible for directing this insane military action against Iran.”

Ansari claims that, as the head of the Department of War, Hegseth has a responsibility to ensure that the laws of the country are followed and that military operations are conducted within those laws.

Additionally, as the head of a government agency, he should set an example and inspire other military officers; most importantly, his primary responsibility is to obey the Constitution.

“He has done none of that. Instead, he has trampled on the most fundamental principles upon which the United States was founded, including the separation of powers, congressional oversight,, and respect for the rule of law,” Ansari said.

More than 100 international law professors claim that this military assault against Iran violates the United Nations charter and may even become war crimes.

As part of the attack, administration members also made a statement about expanding strikes against the civilian population if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened.

“That’s why I’m calling for Pete Hegseth’s impeachment and removal from office immediately,” Rep. Ansari concluded.

Neither Pete Hegseth nor any representative of the Department of Defense responded to the news.
