Rick Ross Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges After His Ex Tells Police He Slapped Her, Choked Her and Slammed Her Into a Wall

A woman who reported to the police that Rick Ross allegedly committed domestic violence against her is revealed to be the rapper’s former girlfriend by TMZ, just a few hours after Ross himself surrendered on the domestic violence allegations.

Rick Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II and who is 50 years old, turned himself in to Miami Beach police early Thursday morning. According to the documents provided by the county jail and court, Ross has been charged with felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery related to domestic violence and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 6:10 a.m. He has posted a $6,000 bond for his release: $5,000 for the felony and $1,000 for the misdemeanor.

The sources in law enforcement, cited by TMZ, claimed that the woman contacted the police on Tuesday, roughly a month after the alleged assault. The website has not disclosed the complainant’s identity, and authorities have not yet released the arrest affidavit.

As TMZ reports, the woman said that the alleged assault took place on August 28th, when Ross woke her up over a photo she had been tagged in on social media.

According to the woman, Ross demanded explanations from her about lying to him, slapped her in the face, and accused her of having affairs with other men. She told the police that he hit her every time she denied it. Moreover, the woman claimed that Ross struck her in the chest several times, choked her till she could not breathe, yanked her ponytail, and pushed her against the wall. Then she showed the photos of the injuries to the police, according to TMZ.

In their statements to TMZ, Ross’ lawyers, Steve Sadow and Bradley Horenstein, said, “Mr. Roberts is innocent and has pled not guilty to the charges.” According to the statement, a former girlfriend with unknown motives wrongfully accused Ross, and she did not report it to the police immediately after the alleged incident. The lawyers asked everyone not to judge their client and let the judicial process take its course.

Ross is due for arraignment on October 22nd.

Ross’ arrest has followed days after Jazzma Kendrick, 39, who works as a model and real estate agent, reported abuse by Rick Ross in a chain of Instagram Stories posts on Saturday. Kendrick and Ross were reportedly dating on and off since 2025. Police have not revealed the identity of the woman who filed a complaint against Ross and said nothing about whether she was Kendrick.

In one post, Kendrick shared a photo of her injured lip with the caption, “The day Rick busted my lip and the day I left.” In response to a user complimenting her looks and mentioning Ross, she wrote, “He saw a punching bag.”

In the second post, Kendrick stated that any man who put his hands on her “never loved me and never will.” Kendrick finished the chain of posts with a message to anyone experiencing domestic violence, saying, “If a man hits you one time, he will do it again.”

Ross had not responded to Kendrick’s allegations publicly before the arrest.

Ross was born and raised in the Miami area, and for two decades became a prominent rapper known for tracks such as “Hustlin'” and “Money in the Grave”. Also, he established the Maybach Music Group record label and was nominated for the Grammy Award nine times.

In 2017, in a case in Georgia, Ross pleaded no contest to assault charges from 2015, when he was arrested for attacking a groundskeeper of his Fayette County estate.
